Position Summary

The Project Engineer is responsible for assisting the Project Manager with administrative duties associated with the project, material releases, vendor follow-up, coding invoices for A/P, routine correspondence, field dimensioning, change orders, submittals and labor and delivery schedules.

Please note that this position is an assistant to the Project Manager in the construction field and not an Engineering position.

 

Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Update Things-To-Do List with the Project Manager for work that is outstanding
  2. Develop a time schedule and priority list for work to be accomplished
  3. Record all applicable information in Project Control/Document Control System with target dates for completion of tasks; review with Project Manager on a biweekly basis
  4. Review Job Costs with Project Manager on a monthly basis
  5. Review Project Specification for shop drawings submittal requirements and prepare transmittals and shop drawings
    1. Review the shop drawings against the architect’s plans and specifications and discuss any discrepancies you find with the Project Manager
    2. Make sure the submittal package includes the required number of shop drawings per the specifications, color selection samples on anything requiring color selections, sink and fixture schedules with catalog cuts, and utility service schedules
    3. Follow up with the general contractor or owner for performance dates on return of submittal and notify Project Manager if these dates slip
  6. Assist with draft of Sequence of Operations letter, Manpower Loading Schedule, and Schedule of Values
  7. Discuss and review with the Project Manager prior to mailing them to customer.
  8. Review shop drawings when they are returned from general contractor or owner for compliance to our estimates and scope of work.  Discuss any changes with the Project Manager:
    1. Discuss with the Project Manager and determine if the project can be released or requires re-submittal
    2. If there is additional information required to release the project, obtain and follow up until the information is received
  9. Prepare transmittal, submittals and release checklist for release to vendors for manufacturing:
    1. Make certain the vendor is notified to release their equipment for manufacturing and specify a shipment date to allow the project to complete with our sequence of operations
    2. Discuss any deviations with Project Manager on possible dates which may slip or the performance of ISEC, general contractor or owner has delayed the reasonable lead-time of the vendor
    3. Prior to releasing orders, verify quantities of buy-outs against final approved shop drawings and architectural drawings.  If there are discrepancies, discuss with Project Manager and, if necessary, issue appropriate change orders and purchase orders to provide correct quantities for shipment to the job
  10. Schedule shipments of materials to warehouse or jobsite in accordance with PM.
  11. Obtain sets of final installation drawings as required and transmit to the general contractor and to the field file for ISEC installation
  12. Assist Project Manager in preparing quotations for owner or general contractor request for changes.  Obtain quotes from manufacturer and assemble all necessary information for labor estimate sheet, project bid record, and change order summary pricing
  13. Detail packing list and acknowledgements, which are received from vendors against shop drawings and schedules.  Verify the quantity they are acknowledging is what’s required on the job and notify the vendor and Project Manager of any discrepancies
  14. Obtain the necessary documentation for freight claims from installers and freight companies.  Reorder the necessary materials, which have been damaged or lost.
  15. Maintain a Shortage and Reorder Status Report for each project.  Provide a copy to Field Supervisor biweekly and update with information returned
  16. Document all shortages, engineering errors, lost items, damaged items or any materials necessary to finish the job with the vendor.  Discuss with Project Manager regarding back charges to vendors and labor impact
  17. Prepare operation and maintenance manuals, guarantees and submit in accordance with specification requirements on each project
  18. Schedule project for punch list with Project Manager when the job is substantially complete.  Follow up with Field Supervisor to make sure the punch list is finished.  This means going to the job and checking each item on the list
  19. Discuss anything identified as involving potential cost, potential performance or customer relationships with Project Manager
  20. Assist Project Manager in preparing monthly billing on all projects
  21. Assist Project Manager in preparing Cost Projections every month
  22. Assist PM with weekly logs:
  • Room Status report
  • OIL
  • CTC management
  • Manpower schedules
  • Weekly staff meeting agenda
  • COP Log

  • Bachelors Degree in Construction Management

 

Minimum Qualifications

Education/Experience

  • Bachelors Degree in related field or High School Diploma with at least 5 years of relevant construction industry experience.  Or, at least 2 years of College in a related field plus 2 years relevant experience as a Project Coordinator, Estimator, Purchasing Agent; in a construction related field.
